FAQ’S

1. Why should I take lessons?
A good instructor can help you become a better rider, and enhance the relationship between you and your horse. If you are a non-horse owner, getting practical experience before ownership is definitely the way to go!

2. But I don’t want to show- so why should I choose The Horse Lady as my instructor?
I can work with all levels of expertise, and has had many students that were not interested in showing- simply getting better. And, there have been a number of people take lessons that went from being recreational riders to challenging them selves in the show ring. The Horse Lady never pushes her students to show, and makes goal setting a priority.

3. What kind of experience has The Horse Lady had?
I have been teaching for almost 30 years, and have had students achieve success in many disciplines and breeds- references available upon request.

4. Why does The Horse Lady do so many private lessons?
I believe that group lessons have their place, but for the optimum learning experience with the highest degree of safety, private lessons are the best learning environment. Modified group lessons involving the same family can be arranged upon request. All students learn to ride with other riders when their skill level is high enough to ensure safety.

5. What training methods are used?
I use repetition and reward based training methods, strong on love and fair with discipline. I love horses, and like them more than most people I meet. My horses are loving, well mannered, and happy critters.

6. What kind of credentials does The Horse Lady have?
I am a certified IJA judge, and an experienced 4-H and Open Show Judge. A William Woods graduate in both hunt seat and saddle seat formally instructed me. My western background has been built over the years, with many successes. I still ride, show and train, which keeps my skills sharp.

7. What age limits are there?
I have a lower age limit of 4 years old, and no limits on how old a person is! My adult students are in their 40s’,50s’ and 60s’, and my kids arrange from 4 to 18. The lower range limit is not set in stone- there are 4 yr olds that are not ready for riding lessons, and I will tell you if that is the case.

8. Where are you located?
The farm where people come to me is in Eldridge Iowa, just north of Davenport. I also travel to multiple barns in the area, as well as private residences to work with people and their horses.
